Wanda B. Connolly
August 5, 1929 ~ July 24, 2013
Wanda Buckley Connolly passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 24, 2013 in her home at the Fairbrook Grove Assisted Living Home in Mesa, Arizona. She was 83.
Born August 5, 1929 in Brigham City, Utah, Wanda was the oldest of three children born to Edmund Nephi Buckley and Leafon Christiansen (Meiklejohn). In 1947, she met and married LaVere Otis Connolly after a two-week courtship. He was in the Air Force, stationed in Denver. She was 17. Together they raised four children and celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary before LaVeres passing in 2011.
Most of their married life was spent in the small town of St. Johns, Arizona. For nearly 30 years, Wanda worked for the USDAs Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, administering the governments wool application programs for Navajo sheepherders. But her primary occupation was mom. There always seemed to be time for quick trips to the soda fountain or to share her love for music with her kids. Though she never learned to play, she always enjoyed songs on the family piano. Family vacations meant road trips through most of the western states, and Wandas travels also took her around the world: England, France, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, Hawaii, Tahiti, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Banff and Lake Louise, Canada were among the sights seen and memories made.
Wanda was preceded in death by her brother, Bob, and sister, Marie. She is survived by daughters Cynthia Whitmer, Mary Alvidrez (Phil), Sheree Hunt (Sanford), son LaVerl Otis Connolly, 22 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Together we treasure our memories of Mom and Grani and will remember always her favorite saying: Attitude Is Everything!
